What is the Expiry Date?

When issuing credentials in Sertifier, some may have an expiration date for usage, while others can remain valid indefinitely after being sent.

Setting Up Expiration Dates

Certain certificates may come with an expiration date, while others remain valid indefinitely. If your credentials require a validity period, you can configure this in two ways:

  • Fixed Expiry (Global): When setting up your Credential Details, you can indicate a specific expiration date or validity duration. This will apply the same timeline to every recipient in that campaign.

  • Custom Expiry (Recipient-Specific): You can also set unique expiry dates for each recipient by uploading or adding expiry date data during the Recipients step. Simply map your data column to the Expiration Date attribute to ensure each credential reflects the correct individual deadline.

Managing Expired Credentials

Once a credential reaches its expiration date, it remains accessible to the recipient but will display a prominent "Expired" banner. This indicates to any viewer that the credential is no longer valid.

Automated Expiry Reminders

To help recipients stay on top of renewals, you can configure up to three expiry reminder emails. These automated notifications are sent at your chosen intervals before the expiration date, ensuring recipients have ample time to take any necessary actions to maintain their certification.

Extending or Reactivating an Expired Credential

If a credential has already expired and you need to extend or reactivate it for your recipients, there are two ways to update the expiry date depending on how your campaign is configured:

1. Updating Global Expiry Dates

If you set up a standard expiry date or a fixed validity period for all recipients in a campaign, you can update them all at once:

  • Navigate to Components > Credential Details from the left sidebar.

  • Locate the specific detail being used in your campaign and click the Edit button.

  • Update the expiry date to a new future date or clear it entirely to make the credentials permanent.

  • Once saved, all credentials using that detail will be automatically updated.

2. Updating Individual or Custom Expiry Dates

If you used Custom Attributes to set unique expiry dates for different recipients, you must update them at the campaign level:

  • Navigate to Campaigns from the left sidebar and go to the Sent section.

  • Locate the relevant campaign and click Edit.

  • Select the Recipients step from the top menu.

  • To update individually: Manually edit the expiry date for specific recipients in the list.

  • To update in bulk: Click Upload Recipients to upload an updated Excel or .csv file. When prompted, select the Update for this campaign only option to apply the changes.

By default, editing a credential detail or recipient information will trigger an update notification email to affected recipients. If you do not want to notify recipients of the change, toggle off the email notification option before saving.

Sending Expiry Reminders

To proactively remind recipients before their credentials expire, use the Expiry Reminders tab found under Analytics. From there, you can view all credentials approaching their expiry date and send reminder emails in bulk.
